The story behind the ladies...

Each lady featured in the Lady Series pattern was hand painted by AlanaKay and designed into a repeat pattern. AlanaKay believes in the power of women and she also is a champion for safe spaces where their voices can be heard and celebrated. The Lady with the “X” over her mouth represents the woman who was silenced. We all know at least one, we may be her. The stories keep rolling out from women across the globe who have been silenced at home, at work, by society, by their “friends.” This behavior is systemic and precedes all of us. We didn’t start it but we have grown up in it, have participated in it, have stayed silent when we should have rallied behind a peer, and it is our job to change it. The symbolism of these ladies being designed into a repeat pattern is not an accident. AlanaKay hopes that you see yourself in one of these ladies. She hopes you wear this pattern as a reminder to yourself of the realities that all women face every single day. And she hopes that it sparks a tiny flame inside of you to do your part so that other women might be able to avoid becoming part of this repeat pattern.
